• Shippers Beware of Scams from some Notorious People!

Posted on September 14, 2014 by in Air Cargo to Nigeria

I have to write this now before this happen to someone else.  I.O.U is a conventional business model. Fact! Whether businesses like it or not  the concept of it cannot be phased out for as long as business exist.  The abuse of buy now- pay later or service delivery where the client or customer pay for the services provided later, is what is unethical business practices.  The break of trust where a customer default in making payment after a service has been delivered. Thank God for a country like UK and the rest of the developed countries where anyone who default in paying back what they have owed can easily be tracked, traced and brought to justice. Businesses in most of the developing countries still suffer from the depth of bad debt, it’s a shame.

    My worries….

How do you track down a bogus cargo customer who finds your company online and asked you to deliver his/her goods to Nigeria and that they will pay you when the goods arrived in Nigeria? I know everyone would have one  possible answer to this question . “Don’t deliver the goods until the customer make payment”  This is probably what everyone would say. But once upon a time, I did contrary to this. I wouldn’t be that silly and allow a new or first time  customer to get away with fooling me to deliver before payment. In all honesty  Lady “A”  beat me to my games. She had her cargo delivered to her door and refused to pay me afterward. I know it was my flipping fault, I did accept responsibility for my action but then where is the trust? One of the good reasons why most freight companies accept upfront payment before accepting  shipment from any customer.

Below is the excerpt of the conversation between me and that customer, Lady “A”.  Please read and learn from it. I have named this person as Lady A  in the conversation excerpt . This was the totality of the conversation I had with the lady and this is not disrespect to anyone oooo!

19:47, 12 May - Me: Hi Sister my money was never paid. I believe strongly that business relationship shoud be all about trusting each other. I went to Croydon collected your item twice, you only saw my company on the Internet but you trusted me to deliver but you didn't reciprocate my own trust which I bestowed in you.
20:23, 12 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Good evening
20:23, 12 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: You are good
20:24, 12 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: I can't even remember what went wrong
08:57, 13 May - Me: You have not paid the money.
10:03, 13 May - Me: Are you paying or not? Should I consider this as another scam from and by my own country person?
10:32, 13 May - Me: Lack of trust and integrity put our dear country Nigeria where it is today. If you do business with our white counterparts, they will never rip you off no matter what. If a white person tells you deliver I will pay you, yes they will pay you, even If billion dollar is involved. The story is different when you deal with a Nigerian. Anyway I learned my lessons, sad though. But remember, you are owing me for my sweat.
10:33, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Will call you
10:36, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Because you miss interpreting the whole thing
10:53, 13 May - Me: All I could interpret it to be is that you have not paid me for getting your goods delivered to your doorstep for the past 6 months. 
10:55, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Ola
10:56, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Please I will not accept all this
10:56, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: What went wrong
10:56, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Is all I want to know
10:56, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Cos I really can't remember what happened
10:57, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: My goods couldn't have been given to me if there was no transaction
10:57, 13 May - Me: You have not paid me for sending your goods to you from the UK. Don't tell me you have forgotten.
10:58, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Wh happened
10:58, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Is it so hard to answer
10:59, 13 May - Me: drop it. Let conscious judge.

11:03, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: I said I was going to call you but u kept sending all this
11:04, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: I remembered I payed for my goods and your Nigeria agents messed up the whole stuff that was why I stop using u
11:05, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: Remember I started by saying u r good but ur people here were funny
11:06, 13 May - Lady A Cargo Cust Nig: I really can't remember what happened but I paid for my goods to be given to me
    11:53, 13 May - Me: No you didn't not!!
12:03, 13 May - Me: Remember we had two transactions, the first one you paid for ; the second one was delivered to you out of consent by that incompetent agent. As soon as I released this I called you said you were going to call me back but you didn't. That was all I had of you.
